When the DirectShow Decode switch is unchecked, means disabled, SUPER © encodes any input files/formats irrelevant
of their video/audio codecs by using its own encoding and decoding engine based on the Libavcodec library compiled
within FFmpeg, MEncoder etc..
In this DirectShow Decode OFF mode, SUPER © will not use or rely on any OTHER external codec installed in your PC.
- When the DirectShow Decode switch is checked, means enabled, SUPER © relies exclusively on your PC's DirectShow engine
to decode the input file before re-encoding it. The tiny 'D' button is used to open the 'Video DirectShow Options' window.

For many years before, the DirectShow Decode process was a real pain in the neck. A considerable number of files (.dll or .ax)
has to be correctly installed and registered on a PC in order to decode/play multimedia files with DirectShow.
Various coders/authors have made lot of efforts and created hundreds of DirectShow filters, a user has to get each and every filter
according to his needs to decode/play MP4, MOV, OGG, AVI, MKV and so on..
The result was a terrible mess causing a serious disorder in the DirectShow process, a user ends up having 5 filters from 5 various
authors for the same format (i.e MP4 or MKV) entering all together in conflict and giving more headache than anything else.
Then ffdshow came up to provide a sort of solution that was good for a certain time although it wasn't covering a wide range of file
formats or codecs..
Lately, a brilliant coder from Hamburg/Germany named Hendrik Leppkes developed a set of DirectShow Filters that are based on the
libavformat and libavcodec libraries from the ffmpeg project. They allow to play virtually any format in a DirectShow player like the
native Windows Media Player. A user would be able to play virtually any format without installing any additional player.
Hendrik Leppkes DirectShow filters are called LAV Filters. The LAV Filters are the state of the art in terms
of DirectShow processing,
they have the widest format/codecs coverage while remaining extremely light (a total of 12 files compared to 160 with ffdshow !)
With those 12 unique files, one can decode/play directly on his Windows Media Player those various multimedia formats like:
3GP, ASF, AVI, DV, GXF, MKV, MP4, MOV, MPG, OGG, RM(VB), TS, M2TS, WMV, WEBM, AAC, AC3, AMR, MP2, MP3, TTA... you name it..
If we ONLY take the example of an MKV container,
SUPER © proposes 39 different Video Codecs and 28 different Audio Codecs
making a total of at least 39x28 = 1092 different MKV file type !
By considering those 3GP, ASF, AVI, DV, GXF, MKV, MP4, MOV, MPG, OGG, RM(VB), TS, M2TS, WMV, WEBM, AAC, AC3, AMR, MP2, MP3, TTA... and more,
we create around 8000 different Media file type also playable on SUPER ©
Unlike other DirectShow filters where the user was able for instance to play a matroska file with the H.264 codec 'MKV[H.264]' but unable
to decode/play a matroska format with a different codec like HEVC or VP8 'MKV[HEVC]' 'MKV[VP8]', LAV Filers are here to decode/play
a huge number of Video and Audio Codecs for the same format.
With the 3GP, ASF, AVI, DV, GXF, MKV, MP4, MOV, MPG, OGG, RM(VB), TS, M2TS, WMV, WEBM, AAC, AC3, AMR, MP2, MP3, TTA... we have created
thousands different Media file type and have successfully tested them all with Hendrik Leppkes LAV Filters.
The LAV Filters with their 12 unique files were able to decode/play about 98% of our files, while other various DirectShow engines under
test couldn't even decode/play 30% of our files although some of these engines has about 160 various installed files.
We strongly recommend to un-install all other useless DirectShow filters from your PC, they could only be a source of conflict.
Keep only the state of the art LAV Filters and with only their 12 installed files decode/play virtually every existing multimedia file by
directly using your Microsoft native Windows Media Player and encode in DirectShow mode any multimedia file type using SUPER ©
with its DirectShow Decode switch checked. It can't and will never be easier !
Hendrik Leppkes LAV Filters are "THE" solution for DirectShow processing, therefore, as of 2014, eRightSoft decided to implement
the LAV Filters in SUPER © v2014.Build.60 and rely on them as the best available DirectShow engine.
SUPER © has always been relying on the best selected set of DirectShow filters, but now we are confident that our decision in shifting
towards the LAV Filters is the best technical solution, many other GUI converters/encoders will adopt as well our technical choice.
LAV Filters have 3 major blocks: The 'LAV Splitter', 'LAV Video Decoder' and 'LAV Audio Decoder'
The input file goes directly to the 'LAV Splitter' which detects the format and the used Video and Audio Codecs.
The 'LAV Splitter' then outputs and directs the Video Stream to the 'LAV Video Decoder' and the Audio Stream to the 'LAV Audio Decoder'.
The 'LAV Video Decoder' supports the widest variety of Video Codecs while the 'LAV Audio Decoder' supports a huge number of Audio Codecs.

Using these 3 LAV major blocks allows to play virtually any format with any codecs directly on the native Windows Media Player without installing
or adding any additional softwares or players.
Each one of the 3 major blocks can be separately configured with SUPER © using the tiny 'C' button (DirectShow LAV Filters Configuration)
